Cooper is without a doubt my favorite type and lettering designer, and to bring a refined return to his original intentions is an immense gift. While a number of foundries have released interpretations of Cooper’s assorted typefaces, they stray from the original rather dramatically in parts. What was the inspiration for designing the font? While researching a biographic essay for Japan’s IDEA Magazine, I came across the original proofs and drawings for Pompeian Cursive. Pompeian Cursive has been intensively spaced and kerned for the finest setting for weddings, announcements, and general display work. By reviewing the few remaining original drawings for the type, as well as copious samples of Pompeian Cursive from both Cooper & BB&S' proofing process and period-specific type specimens, Wordshape presents the first digital version of this classic hybrid script/sans typeface, complete with all original alternate characters and ornaments. A lively set of non-lining numerals accompanied, as well as a few calligraphically-inspired flourishes for ornamenting the end of lines of type accompanied the typeface, as well. The typeface featured a limited number of alternate characters and a handful of graceful ligatures. Your own efforts through the years to boost the foundry into a place in the sun as an originator seem wasted.” Still, Cooper took up the task at hand, creating a delicate, sophisticated type design which he named Pompeian Cursive. In response to BB&S’s desire to emulate instead of innovate, Cooper wrote to Mcarthur, “I am desolated to see Barnhart’s hoist the black flag. In 1927, BB&S requested that Cooper create a script-like cursive typeface design in step with Lucien Bernhard’s Schoenschrift and ATF’s similarly-styled Liberty typeface. The history of this typeface: Oswald Cooper’s relationship with the Barnhart Brothers & Spindler foundry was one instigated under the auspices of creating new styles of type in lieu of following stylistic trends. A lively set of non-lining numerals accompanies, as well as a few calligraphically-inspired flourishes for ornament. The above example highlights a very common dynamic: Automatic thoughts have the potential to trigger intense negative emotions. Despite the majority of the feedback being positive, negative filtering might cause us to perceive the review as wholly negative, triggering emotions of disappointment, sadness, or anxiety. We call this phenomenon negative filtering, which means filtering out all but the negative information. It’s not uncommon for people who have a mostly good performance review to filter out most of the praise and instead fixate on the one or two areas where there’s room for improvement. Take, for example, a pretty common experience, the job performance review. Other times, we assign meaning to something that isn’t totally grounded in the actual facts of the situation. This process works well most of the time, but sometimes, we focus on less important bits of information, filtering out the more relevant parts. It does this by focusing on certain aspects of a situation and then assigning some kind of meaning to those aspects, resulting in our thoughts and opinions about things. The brain is pretty good at filtering what it deems unimportant information and focusing on what seems most salient. Most thoughts enter and leave our minds out of our awareness. Thankfully, that’s not how our brain works. If we were to attend to each one of these, we would be overwhelmed by the flood of information. Our minds are thought-processing machines, creating and sifting through as many as 60,000 ideas in a given day. Often, we are completely unaware we are even having thoughts, but with a little instruction and practice, you can learn to easily identify them, and, as a result, get a better handle on your mood and behavior. In this book, we’ll be referring to a specific kind of thoughts that we call “automatic thoughts.” Automatic Thoughts DefinitionĪutomatic Thoughts are the thoughts that automatically arise in our minds all throughout the day. Thoughts influence much of our experience of the world, including our emotional experience. The key to understanding feelings is identifying the thoughts associated with them. Sometimes, we feel an emotion seemingly out of the blue, too strongly for what’s going on, or in a way that doesn’t seem to fit the situation at all. Some feelings may seem predictable in certain situations, but others may be puzzling. If you’re working through this book in order, you’ve been spending some time identifying and thinking about feelings. When the trio inform Sam, she berates Jared for violating his principles by helping a drug lord. Jared, Bryce, and Amanda are threatened by Reyes, who demands that they retrieve his cocaine or face deadly consequences. Primo turns out to be an associate of drug lord Reyes, to whom the cocaine belonged in the first place. Needing money for equipment to salvage the treasure, Bryce and Amanda dive to the plane then try to sell a few bricks of recovered cocaine to local night club owner Primo. They also discover the crashed plane and its cargo of cocaine-Bryce and Amanda want to recover it, but Jared refuses, dispersing the brick they retrieved into the ocean. The four of them investigate and find several other pieces that turn out to be the remains of legendary French pirate ship Zephyr. While snorkeling, Jared finds artifacts on the sea bed that seem to stem from a ship wreck. Bryce, a lawyer in New York City, has acquired the use of a luxury vacation house from a client he defended. Jared's childhood friend, Bryce, and his girlfriend, Amanda (whom he just met the night before), come to visit. Derek Bates has similar dreams and a better boat, but Jared turns down repeated offers to work for him. His real dream is to find one of many treasure-filled merchant and pirate ships lost in the waters around The Bahamas. Sam works as a guide in the local aquatic theme park, while Jared works a number of odd jobs in his field of passion, diving. Jared and Sam are lovers living a rustic life in a trailer, next to the beach in The Bahamas. The film was directed by John Stockwell and was co-distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and Columbia Pictures.Ī sea plane flying on a stormy night malfunctions and crashes in the sea off the coast of The Bahamas. Unfortunately for them his adopted daughter falls for Maynard and becomes suspicious of what they are up too.Into the Blue is a 2005 American action-thriller film starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba with Scott Caan, Ashley Scott, Josh Brolin, and James Frain in supporting roles. Meanwhile, the governor and his essentially second in command have been working with pirates for a while now and are willing to team up with Blackbeard so as to get their share of his prizes. Maynard apparently is sent to deal with Blackbeard by someone else entirely and essentially ends up shanghaied into the pirate's crew, where he hides his real nature, and rather successfully until the time comes for him to save some folks. The intrigue coming in two ways, firstly Blackbeard and Maynard's interaction in searching for the treasure together, secondly the corrupt governor of an apparent colony in the Caribbean as he looks to hide his truth from his adopted daughter and his citizens. As a movie by itself, if one heavily ignores the director and screenwriter playing fast and loose with history, it's mildly entertaining. But by using Blackbeard they ensured there would be a built in audience. For that matter they could have set it at just about any time after his death, even today. Not only that, they could have created a pirate or said forget the pirates and just use anyone wishing to find the treasure. In that they could have used practically any pirate to be alive at any point after Kidd's death. Yet for the most part the facts were thrown out the window to present us with a movie that should have been called "The Hunt for Kidd's Treasure." Because that's really what this movie was about, finding Captain Kidd's treasure. I knew it wasn't going to stick strictly to the facts, what historical movie does? But I expected them to be much more of a guideline than what was presented. Now knowing these things, when I saw ads for this movie I was eagerly anticipating this movie. A basic understanding would mean knowing the name of the ship he's associated with the most (Queen Anne's Revenge, which was a French ship he captured and renamed), he's associated with the then English colony of North Carolina among other places, that the governor of the colony of Virginia sent Maynard after him because the governor of NC was to friendly with him. Not a passing understanding mind you, that would be basically be knowing that he was a pirate and maybe knowing his real name was Edward Teach. I don't claim to be an expert on Blackbeard, in fact like many of us I really have just a basic understanding of who he was. Also, each level has stars for you to collect. Losing all of your health also results in death. There are also pits that will result in instant death. Hazards mainly consist of moving spikes in various forms. Oh, and very rarely defeating an enemy will trigger another enemy or stage hazard to spawn. Every now and then a portal will appear that will take you to a parallel alternate section of the level. The secrets are usually platforms that allow you to continue through the level. But in many places, killing certain enemies will reveal a secret. Sometimes they drop sums of points to add to your score, though I’m unclear if you ever get extra lives based on your score. Sometimes they drop healing items to refill your health bar. You use the boomerang to kill enemies in your path. You play as a monkey with the ability to jump and throw boomerangs. If you still think you’re up for it, let’s dig into this crazy collection of games.Ĭurly Monkey 2 is a 2D platformer in an 8-bit style. I can only warn you that I may be referencing previous games in the list if some seem to be variations of the others. Or just check that video to hear some of the highlights. Maybe bookmark this article to read in chunks if you’d like. Instead, I’ll be going through each game in order of appearance and reviewing them one by one as I go. Why? Because there are 220 built-in games on this bad boy, which would make for an overly-long video. However, to keep that video shorter I decided to talk about the system itself rather than all of the games specifically. If you’d like to hear more about the system in general you can check out the video below. It’s just a standalone handheld device released by dreamGEAR. Instead of reviewing a game for a system, I’ll be reviewing all of the built-in games on the Gamer V Portable handheld system. This review is going to be a little different than the ones I usually do. The other men sort of just follow directions. Another is older, wizened by years of animal mysteries he’s the One Last Job guy in the movies who does his thing impressively, wickedly, cunningly. One seems queer my wife and I think he’s flagging himself to us, though we have limited time with other people these days we are lonely we’ll see anything. There are a few men-all with different energy and trapping styles. I’ve become friendly with the men who come to take care of the squirrels. This should carry allegorical or metaphorical properties that might make it feel better. Each time they scratch and chatter above the bedroom ceiling, or nibble through the insulation of our attic leaving a confetti of toxins on the kitchen counter, each time they screech and scream their mating calls and fuck and tumble and find a new way into our house, I think, This should mean something. The better that humans collectively get at permaculture the more animals that will want to be our friends, as there becomes a mutualistic benefit to our interactions.I can’t find a metaphor for the squirrels. This is likely how we started the domestication process that got some wolves to become dogs. We could theoretically put our skills towards other animals well being effectively recruiting certain wild animals to guard our food for us. Permaculture is basically engineering the most ideal possible natural habitat for humans. Bald Eagles return to the same nesting area for life if the nest remains undisturbed, and if the tree falls, they will rebuild in the same area if the environment is healthy enough to support them.Ī wonderful indicator for ecological health is stable and healthy populations of apex predators like eagles, falcons, wolves, bears, and humans. Prune and train the highest branches as the ideal "welcome sign" for a new mating pair of native predatory raptors. The most ecological way to deal with the squirrel problem is to set-up the ideal nesting habitat/situation in the nearest largest species compatible tree. In less than 20 minutes, a squirrel stole over 200 black walnuts that we intended to plant strategically as part of an attempted food forest project. If you could scale this up to launch groundhogs, and somehow incorporate a self-resetting mechanism this could become something big! Of course, I should think about owls, considering the raccoon population of the city I live in. It will offer them a spectacular view of my raised bed garden in the back yard, and all the squirrels they can pluck from the mulberry trees and garage roof peaks. I am also building a perch for the local hawks on a pole about six to eight feet above my third-floor bedroom window balcony garden, with an appropriate perch profile and wrapping. I am currently trying to brainstorm a way to cast a moving hawk shadow, probably a silhouette pinned to a motorised clothesline activated by motion sensor, but first I think I am going to try an outdoor speaker and motion sensor setup, with the speaker playing a hawk shriek any time the sensor is triggered. On a serious note, are there any guardian animals that squirrels do take seriously? I mean, they disappear whenever the Red-Tailed Hawks soar by, and I know that they are preyed upon, as I have seen, on many occasions, Red-Tailed Hawks munching on squirrel perched atop electrical poles. Is it bad that I want to see video of the Squirrel Electric Slide? Those little fuckers just won't leave my bean seedlings alone. Although CVTs will last slightly longer than standard automatic transmission, they are unlikely to last more than 100,000 miles or less. In general, a CVT transmission replacement cost between $3,000 and $5,000. How Much Does It Cost To Service A Cvt Transmission? Keeping the system clean on a regular basis and replacing any necessary components will keep it in good working order. The system should be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis in order to be run smoothly. Cleaning And Maintaining Your Cvt TransmissionĪ CVT is a popular transmission type that is prone to failure. When compared to engine oil, transmission fluid should never burn out. Owners are advised to use the owner’s manual for specific guidance as well as to keep records of any relevant services. Do Cvt Transmissions Need Maintenance?Īn inspection and/or fluid change are the most common maintenance steps taken by CVT manufacturers. A proper transmission maintenance program will keep your CVT running smoothly for much longer. Regular fluid changes will keep your CVT running smoothly and prevent the accumulation of debris that can cause serious problems down the road. transmissions in the past wore down material more quickly than today’s transmissions, but this has now stopped. The sump pan, filter, and transmission fluid will not be replaced, but your transmission fluid will be replaced entirely. AAMCO Lee’s Summit’s Power Purge service includes the use of a special machine that connects to the vehicle’s transmission. Our transmission fluid services are performed in a variety of ways at AAMCO Lee’s Summit depending on the nature of your vehicle. If you wait too long between transmission fluid changes, your transmission will not function properly. Manufacturers’ recommendations can range from 30,000 to 80,000 miles for a vehicle. When you’ve used your CVT for an extended period of time, it will need to be flushed however, depending on your vehicle, it can go for up to 100,000 miles. Your CVT transmission should be inspected at least every 30,000 miles at your local transmission repair center in Utah. How Often Should A Cvt Transmission Be Serviced? Most vehicles’ overall reliability will be lower than anticipated if they use a conventional automatic or manual transmission. The following models are available in addition to the Nissan Murano, Sentra, Altima, Rogue, Versa, and Versa Note.Ī new vehicle with a CVT is expected to last up to 100,000 miles on average in today’s market. There were some issues with the transmission when it was first introduced in 2003 and again in the 2007-2012 generation of CVTs. There have been generally reported issues between 20 and between 20. The service manual recommends that 11 quarts of water be used in addition to the 11 quarts recommended. If you decide to do so, remove the pan, clean the mesh filter on the valve body, and replace the paper filter in the oil cooler. If you use the NIssan NS3 fluid, I believe there are no downsides to changing the CVT fluid in your car however, if you don’t, I believe the cost is high. When the fluid deterioration rate is low for an extended period of time, it could easily be an indication that the fluid needs to be changed because acids in the parts begin to eat away at them because they cannot present themselves without water. The engine water temperature is an excellent indicator of overheated fluid because it keeps water boiled out of the fluid, preventing potential problems. During the summer months, an Altima can reach a fluid temperature of 90C. Is it too late to start cvt transmission now? My car has 128k miles on it, has never had a transmission service, and was purchased from an auto auction three years ago. If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s best to have your CVT transmission checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible to avoid further damage. Some of the symptoms that may indicate your CVT transmission needs to be serviced include harsh or erratic shifting, reduced fuel economy, unusual noises, or a check engine light. Likewise, if you mostly drive on the highway in relatively flat terrain, you may be able to go longer between service intervals. If you frequently drive in stop-and-go traffic or in hilly or mountainous terrain, your CVT transmission will likely need to be serviced more often. Depending on how often you drive and the conditions you typically encounter, you may need to have your CVT transmission serviced as often as every 30,000 miles or as seldom as every 100,000 miles. However, like all mechanical components, it will eventually need to be serviced. Your Nissan CVT transmission is designed to provide years of trouble-free operation.
